*SSHADE Partners Newsletter' #002* (14 September 2018) Dear SSHADE partners, The main news is that, as planned, we started an intensive advertisement campaign of SSHADE through Newsletters, direct mailing, User tutorials at conference ... *SSHADE advertisement* A text presenting SSHADE and its databases has just been sent to about 10 Newsletters, either international (Planetary News, Laboratory Astrophysics Division of AAS, The Planetary Exploration Newsletter, DPS Newsletters, ExoPlanetNews) or French (PNP News, PCMI Newsletter (astro interstellar medium), SFE Information (exobiology), IPSL, SF2A). They should appear in the coming 2 weeks. ACTIONS: => If you know other international NewsLetters of planetary science, astrophysics or Earth science (geology, ...), please send us their names and the email contact. => To advertise SSHADE in your country, either send the text in english (attached) or translate it to your own language and send it to the different Newsletters of your country you know in the fields of interest. Please let us know the Newsletter names when you do it (for tracking and reporting). => Also Don't hesitate to send it to all your colleagues who may be interested in SSHADE. *SSHADE at EPSC* 4 user's demonstration/tutorial sessions of SSHADE (SMW1.15) of 30' each (+ 15' discussion) will be held at EPSC (17-21 September 2018, Berlin) in the Mercury room: - Monday 17: 16:30-17:00 - Monday 17: 17:15-17:45 - Wednesday 19: 10:45-11:15 - Friday 21: 9:30-10:00 We have sent an advertisement for these sessions on Tuesday 13th early morning to almost all first authors of an abstract at EPSC relevant to SSHADE: about 200 people! (e-mail picked by hand in the abstracts...). The next one will be at DPS (Knoxville, TN, USA, 21-26 October 2018) *SSHADE User's activity* - The result after one day is that we get yesterday almost 90 individual visits in 24H! (instead 5-15/day last month). In the next newsletter we will report the next 30 days of activity. - After looking at the way each visit occurred (we have an anonymous track of the visit paths) one lesson to keep in mind is that a large fraction of the new visitors start to have a look at the pages of the individual databases. So it is very important that these pages are as complete as possible, in particular the description of your database (2 DB have no description and 8 have just some title). And your logo. *Description of Your database* ACTION: => Complete the description of your database (just a few lines, you can take the one given in your page in the wiki: https://wiki.sshade.eu/sshade/databases) in your database.xml file and re-import it. *LOGO of your database* - Create the logo of your database. It will be displayed on the front page of SSHADE. - For technical and design constraints we ask you to provide it in the following size and format (see also mail sent on 04/09/18): * Width (horizontal) = 600 pixels Width/Height: between 1.2 and 3 max * Format: png, with transparent background (alpha canal of the png). No margins (cropped). ACTION: => When almost ready, submit it to us for checking. We will add it on the front page of SSHADE. *Local web site* We sent a mail on 04/09/18 on the way to create a web page on your database (and SSHADE) in your Institute/Laboratory web site. It is a less urgent matter but will help to promote and give additional visibility to your database and SSHADE. It will also add entry points to SSHADE (and Google referencing !). When we will have a good example we will send you the link. *Data in SSHADE* - SSHADE now has a total of 1630 spectra in the databases, with 1376 that are public (the remaining 254 are in validation phase or in private or restricted access, mostly awaiting acceptation of a publication). For SSHADE being a successful spectral database we all have to keep importing new data of good quality. Especially now that we are actively promoting it to all potential users. So keep filling your database! - This message is in particular for the 5 of the most recent databases, which have less than 15 spectra: ISMAD, COMEDA, MIA, MTACSFK, SPAN (to which I gave the status of 'starting database'). *SSHADE managers tutorial* The Provider tutorials have been upgraded in order to describe the new interface developped to manage your database, your data providers and database members, and the validation/access right of your data. See: https://wiki.sshade.eu/sshade/provider/database_management https://wiki.sshade.eu/sshade/provider/howto *Current developments* - DOI implementation (ready, will be tested soon) - DOI contract (in preparation) - VO VESPA interoperability with SSHADE - extension to planetary samples (Lunar, stardust, Hayabusa, ...) - geolocalization of collected samples and field measurements - ...
